Our Story
As you probably know, Christmas time can be an extremely stressful period for people, the Christmas rush, last minute shopping, financial costs, organising the family, school holidays, etc. But as you also probably know it can be an extremely wonderful time for everyone, spending time with family and friends, going on holiday, Santa arrives, etc. Well, Christmas time can also be a stressful time for families and individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Not knowing where you will stay tomorrow night, bouncing from couch to couch, cheap hostels, overcrowded rooms, emergency shelters, make shift dwellings and even cars. Watching the whole world rush around buying Christmas presents, knowing that you don't have anyone to spend Christmas with or even when your next meal will be. Here at the Homeless Christmas Drive, we aim to relieve some of that stress and replace it with some love and Christmas spirit.
Our Aim
Our aim of the Homeless Christmas Drive is to provide the homeless of Sydney to wake up on the happiest day of the year, Christmas morning, the same way we do, filled with love and happiness. The Homeless Christmas Drive is about hand delivering the Homeless of Sydney with the necessities of life, objects such as deodorant, tissues, toothbrush, toothpaste, re-useable water bottles and keep cups, facial wipes, sanitary products, blankets, clothes and food. Objects that we may take advantage of, but objects that are very much needed day to day.
Our Goals
Our biggest goal at the Homeless Christmas Drive is that one day our care packages won't be needed as there won't be any people experiencing rough homelessness left. However until then, we hope to spread as much love and Christmas spirit as we can this Christmas Eve. As the Homeless Christmas Drive grows so does our goals to reach as many individuals as we can. This year we have aimed high, in an attempt to reach more homeless. It was said by the City of Sydney's count in 2017, that 386 people were sleeping rough on the streets of Sydney's CBD and that it was the second highest level on record. The Homeless Christmas Drive's goal is to reach every single one of those individuals.
